The Story Behind the Recipe:
This a true family recipe passed on from generation to generation.

Ingredients:
For a small batch of cookies:
3 cups flour
1 egg
½ cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/8 cup shortening
¼ cup water or orange juice
½ tsp vanilla
Cookie Topping mixture:
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup sugar
½ cup chopped nuts
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream sugar, eggs and shortening, then add dry ingredients.
Add as much liquid (plus or minus ¼ cup) as needed to make soft dough.
Separate the yolk from the white. Use the yolks to make the dough and save the white.
Roll dough ¼ inch thick and brush with beaten egg whites.
Sprinkle with topping mixture.
Cut with various shapes of cookie cutters.
Place on cookie sheets and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
